How You Know It’s Time To Think Different!

On Sept 27th, 2015 I have attended a conference in Canada hosted by SOHO, and the conference topic was "how to improve your business in Canada". People were talking about hiring skilled candidates, promote your services and  apply a tool such as benchamrking and market research to measure business performance in the market. From my perspective I have another plan and opinion which has a positive impact on business improvement whether in Canada market or other market.

Nowadays, a website is a necessity for entrepreneurs, small businesses, home-based businesses, and anybody selling products or services. Regardless of your other marketing methods, enabling potential customers to either find you through a Google search or learn more about you after they’ve seen your other marketing material is key to creating and developing new customers.

A well structured website is required to make a business online. As Internet is becomes more important for users. It offers many benefits to make user's life more convenient and easy. For the promotion of business it is needed that you should have a website from where users could browse and purchase products that your business is offering.

Nowadays, people are using apps for different purposes. For every business apps are important to communicate with users on a secure network. They also delegate their tasks with the help of these programs. From exchange of resources to implementation of solutions for an extensive, each procedure needs web programs.

This process was activated due to some customers who were regularly challenging customized sites which can provide their objective. Furthermore, progression in technology has persuaded designers to discover unknown areas of web development. They can utilize the new update in their projects for better performance and adaptability.

A wide range of programs are available to business owners, using which they can make their companies even more effective and thus generate more benefit. The area of web design and development has gone through a technical trend, customized web database integration services have collected the attention of customers and clients.

They can now personalize web programs as per their specifications and requirements.

Web design and development services have become very essential among organizations working in different sectors. Furthermore, customized web programs allow incorporation of several features such as tracking analysis, database, content writing, marketing etc.

It has also been noticed that these programs fulfill business needs, regardless of the products engaged in those, Hence, they help to handle work procedures and information in a manageable way.

Benefits of Web Development Services

A market for personalized web application solutions, has been designed out by a huge number of software companies. Following are some main benefits of employing customized web development services:
  1. Web surfing around can be assisted.
  2. Transactions, including loads of information can be handled quickly
  3. The volume of visitors to a website can be improved.

Stages in Web Development Process

Development of a web application includes the following phases:
  1. Determining the characteristics of the venture and its objectives
  2. Devising a Specific Strategy depending on the goals of the venture
  3. Developing the Project as per the program
  4. Testing the venture for protection at every level of development
Creating a website for your business more than just a website isn't about a fancy or flashy design. Rather, a smarter design that makes a site more user-friendly with high-quality content worth returning for is all that is needed to make a business or brand stand out among the rest.

Do You Have A Smart Move Plan For Disaster Recovery?

Many financial directors think of IT Disaster Recovery as something that never really happens to them and even if it did the business would be able to get back to business as usual inside a day or so. Assets are safeguarded, backups taken (usually), and unless you are forced to, having a plan and some good intentions are equally as good as having DR equipment sitting around doing nothing utilizing the earth's resources at great expense. This philosophy is green too!!!

Planning for a disaster is a smart move. You never know when disaster will strike, so it pays to be prepared for the worst. Your organization or business must put a disaster plan in place before a real disaster happens. Failure to do so will put your business in peril in the aftermath of disasters such as fire, floods, earthquakes, Data gets stolen, hardware fails or power outage for a long time. Moreover, it will be difficult to get your business back on its feet following a disaster.

The key to business continuity even in the face of disaster is to make sure that you design disaster plan that is useful and effective. So the first step in designing your disaster recovery system is to analyze the risks that you will most likely encounter. Make sure that you have conducted a thorough analysis on all your computer systems and jot down all the risks that could possibly injure system up time. You will then have to appraise how imminent these risks might be in particular to your company.

To create a full-fledged program for disaster recovery, we need to build up a proper road map for resources that should be pulled at the right time, and for the right purpose.

From my perspective, DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan) team is considered as key role in creating Disaster Recovery plan, build up the structure and workflow, and ensuring that all essential planning bases are covered for referred purpose

What's the Purpose of a DRP Team?

A "team approach" to disaster recovery planning provides three (3) primary advantages:

+ It takes a team to identify comprehensive disaster recovery requirements, sufficiently diverse and relevant to all key needs and operational perspectives.

+ It takes a team to create an actionable disaster recovery program, considering all operational capabilities and constraints.

+ It takes a team to put all the plans and programs into action and keep current with changing needs.

Building your plan

The 3 major issues in building a disaster recovery plan are recovery point, time to recovery, and budget.

Recovery Point

How much data can you lose? Is some data more important than other data? What data is absolutely critical for the business to survive? Maybe some email can be lost, but the blue prints or accounting information is invaluable. Your recovery point is the definition of what the system needs to look like once everything has been fixed.

Time to recovery

How long can the business be down? Can some parts of the business be down longer than others? When does everything need to be back to normal? Each business will answer this question differently, and this standard will heavily influence the type of solution chosen.

Budget

If money were not object, every business would want their IT up and running immediately and to the fullest extent possible after a disaster. Of course, that probably isn't the case.

Budget falls into two categories. First, there is some cost for preparing for the disaster. Developing a disaster recovery plan, setting up the backup solution, and perhaps even buying redundant hardware all contribute to this expense.

The second cost comes after the disaster has struck. This might include the cost to buy new hardware, set up the network, and restore from backup. Estimates for this cost should also be included in the plan. Having a plan is worthless if the plan is too expensive to implement.

Whatever your disaster recovery plan looks like, remember to print it out. If you only have an electronic copy and your server crashes, you'll be starting from scratch.

IT Systems and Disaster Recovery

Because I already came from IT background so I would like to focus in this part only as it has become very important for the smooth functioning of the organization so it is very important that organization IT infrastructure should be updated and running all the time.

As I mentioned above about the types of disasters, so there are many things which can be lose during or after the disaster. This can be anything which hinders the business process. This can be assets, records, employees and suppliers etc. The loss of the information includes customer's details and other internal data etc. There can be loss of access, use of premises, computers etc can be happen at any time.

By considering the following steps a good plan can be made:

() By identifying the core elements of the company and assigning values to the assets.

() By prioritize each area of work to the appropriate person.

() By defining and considering a plan according to the customer's expectations.

() By communicating the strategy in the whole organization and check whether the resources are prepared accordingly or not.

As the plan is ready and it has been tested and reviewed by the committee, then management should approve it. The plan is like an insurance confirming that the business can be run if a disaster happens. The effectiveness and success of the plan depends on the way it is written, implemented and how one can understands it. The plan should be reviewed periodically and updated according to the need of the business process.

Apply These 5 W's In Your Business To Double Your opportunity to Success

I have a significant insight about the strategy of establishing any small business in different industries, and today I wanted to share it with you. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.

One of my friends had established a small company in XY city in Canada, his plan was to offer general cleaning and maintenance services which can compete other cleaning services companies in the market place.

After a one year he has finally come to realize there is just no way to make it work. It was heading in the wrong direction and start losing many customers. He and the business both broke, behind on his personal bills from funneling all his available cash into the business and receiving at least 3 -5 collection calls a day.

In the end of 2013, I met him in Canada and we started talking about many things that negatively impacted his business. He told me that he is not sure he can live with the guilt of simply walking away from this business that took a year to create. The shame of not being good enough or smart enough or prepared enough to make it stand out in competitive market.

I kept listening and listening without adding any comment until I raised my hand to stop him and asked him;

Me: Have you done any research or business plan before open this business? Have you applied five W's of marketing? I read from his eyes that I am asking about something doesn’t relating with his story!

Friend: I don’t know what do you mean by W’s marketing. We all do the same thing here when start small business. Everybody in the business has the same tools, the same skilled technicians and it has just turned into a battle over price, price, and price.

Me: So you have no distinguishing strategy, nothing that sets you apart?

Friend: No. which strategy you mean and what is the W’s?

Me: Starting a business has its perks. However, there are some areas that you need to review, build a strategy before you hang an "Open" sign on your storefront, the best way to begin any business venture is research, plan, write it down and then act.

One of these strategies is Five W's: who, what, when, where, and why.

Who? You need to understand your community – your clients, customers, and your potential customers – to succeed in your business. The better you know who they are, the better you can deliver value for them and the better you can serve businesses that want to connect with your customers or clients.

What? What makes you different? To people who might be interested in your service, or to businesses interested in connecting with your audience, you need to stand out from the crowd of alternatives. It is important to understand the details of the products you will market. What are you doing to distinguish your product from the competition? The more you seem like just another service technology or just another advertising vehicle, the less time, attention and money you will command.

When? Timeliness has economic value in any business. Creating deadlines and delivering the services on time is crucial to keeping yourself on track. Don't procrastinate! The business that can offer a services or product according to the scheduled time is on its way to success as it is considered valuable for consumers and businesses.

Where? Location is going to be increasingly important: you should figure out how location will (or won't) contribute to the success of the business. Will you work out of your home to start or will you lease office or shop?  Where will you be located and why is this good location for your business.

Why? You need to understand (and be able to explain) why someone would use your product or service and why a business would pay for any services you offer. You have to understand what Clayton Christensen calls the job that you are doing for a business or a user.

Whether you’re starting your first or your third business, expect to make mistakes and face some barriers. This is natural and so long as you learn from them, also beneficial. If you do not make mistakes, you do not learn what to do less of and equally, what to do more of.  I would say the great thing about owning your own business is that you get to decide what you want to do and what direction you want to grow in.

Before starting your own business, it’s important to take some time and reflect on what needs to be done to get a successful business off the ground. The planning stage is crucial, and will set the stage The Five W's of business for how efficiently your company operates. If the planning of your business is still in its infancy, finding your ‘Five Ws’ can be a good way to understand the basics of how your business will operate.

How KPI Could Get Your Information Technology Sector on omg!

Performance indicators are always considered an essential point of discussion within the frame of general business management. To begin with, I would firstly define the performance indicator as a measurement tool which some sort of performance is gauged. And then come to a specific type of performance indicator which is a key performance indicator that has been identified as being critical to the performance of a business, company or organization.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI) must be objectively defined in order to provide a quantifiable and measurable indication of the organizations progress towards achieving its goals.

In business if you talk in traditionally level, most organizations adopt the balanced scorecard method to measure operating performance. As a terminology it is almost the same because the goal of Balanced Scorecard is to measure, yes, the performance of your business If we look at how the balanced scorecard corresponds and based on Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton theory organizational activity can be classified into three hierarchies: strategic planning, management control, and operational control based on criteria that measured performance from three additional perspectives—those of customers, internal business processes, and learning and growth.

On the other hand, there is still a significant difference and I would say, every organization or company should develop the Key Performance Indicators matrix for each section and serve as department-specific measures of performance to help its business to understand and improve on how interact with customers and respond to their needs.

You should ask yourself what steps need to be taken to ensure the business achieves its goals. For instance, the receptionist takes a call, provides assistance and takes orders. The florist selects or orders supplies and assembles the order. Dispatch arranges for delivery of order. Delivery person ensures delivery.
In the example above, completing deliveries to schedule impacts lead time, which impacts stock levels, purchasing levels and customer satisfaction. Therefore, on-schedule delivery is a leading indicator of a wide range of performance indicators.

Here, I will talk about the impact of KPI in Information Technology Services areas in educational sector in terms of provide Reliability, Availability and Serviceability. These areas include IT Services Help Desk, Academic Technology, Web Technology, Network and Systems Availability.

From web technology background, I will mainly investigate the key performance indicators of IT Web technology management @ American University of Sharjah
Web Services AUS supports the main www.aus.edu web site and several associated sub sites. Due to the increased usage of mobile devices, the entire site should be re-engineered to support a technology called Responsive Web Design.

The web and systems team also provides support for e-Learning (blackboard), banner, community website, and several other web centric applications.

Pain and Sustain

Giving an example in simplest way is a shortcut to be understood by everyone who read the article. For instance, imagine when your body warns you with pain when you are doing something you shouldn’t. If you are lazy and you don’t like to do exercise enough and keep sitting in front of your computer for too long, you get muscle aches and pains, or a repetitive strain injury.

That’s your body telling you to do more physical stuff, or else! You begin to learn naturally that doing something you shouldn’t equates to pain, therefore you do your best to steer clear of the discomfort and do any exercise that sustain muscle pain and keeping your body aches under control . Notice how the body gives you a taster? If you have been sitting too long in one position you get tired and achy? It’s your body’s natural “kick up the backside” to suggest that you get up and move around for a bit or you’ll suffer later on.

Look at website KPIs as a potential taster of some real pain, the signals that you use to guide your thinking about getting out of your chair and doing something.

Feeling the pain in Your Website?

The real pain is when you spend thousands of dollars on advertising to drive traffic to your website, but then, convert very few of them to your goal. Or you spend countless hours modifying website pages, yet don’t have a clue whether any of the changes you’re making have any effect on your customers. This is what you will likely experience if you look only at bottom line results, and not the causes of those results.

In all business websites, you should identify the advertising, the products, and those areas of your site that generate the highest number of visitors and/or greatest interest over the long term. If the time spent by visitors on your website is too short, your copy, graphics, or usability are wasted and likely need to be re-written or re-designed to be more compelling.

Therefore, website KPIs should be revisited regularly and may often be valued differently by diverse stakeholders from within your organization

How Blue Ocean is The Answer To Stand Out Your Business in Crowded Market

When we are planning to establish any business we need to put a plan and strategy about the way that we are moving away from direct competition and create your own model of that business. Is this foolish, or we need to tell ourselves there always small niches that need to be filled in this market.

When I sit with many of friends who have business, actually small business and ask them about their competition, they usually tell me they are offering a similar service to their prospective customers or clients, as they do. And that is just one of the challenges they are competing against.

I would say, to market your business successfully, you need to address your niche in all the areas of competition. You need a marketing strategy, to ensure people know how good you are, before they buy from you or hire you. You need a marketing strategy, to make it easier for them to switch to you than to stay with their current, under-performing provider. You need a marketing strategy, to increase your visibility to prospective clients and customers.

I don’t say just because there is no one selling a particular product or service doesn't mean it's automatically a good idea to try and address your business to that direction. Conversely, a competitively crowded industry shows that demand exists, as well as a viable market. The key to business success isn't finding an empty field, but defining your company narrowly—no matter how crowded a marketplace you're entering.

In this article I would like to talk about how to differentiate in the market and grow a successful business. There are many ways you can differentiate your business, for instance, how Starbucks revolutionized the coffee shop by selling an experience rather than just a beverage. In educational sector American University of Sharjah (AUS) now is a leading educational institution in the Gulf and region. In web media I would suggest Mashable, the company didn’t reach millions of people by accident. They are increased their traffic to millions of visitors.

Therefore, I would strongly say no matter how crowded a market is, you should never allow it to intimidate and discourage you from achieving your goals. Each industry, regardless of how crowded it may seem still has room for one more entrepreneur as long as you are willing to invest and work harder to succeed.

In 2008 I have built a big medical directory web platform that provides healthcare online services for all United Arab Emirates people www.uaemd.net and my goals was to enabling potential customers, when I built the website my goal was to provide valuable health information, tools for managing health profile in all category, and support to those who seek information.

So you should not relax in any small achievement. Keep working towards being a trendsetter in the industry, park away from red ocean and you will stand out from the crowd. Even if you are offering a common product or service like my friends, you should find ways of redefining or creating a model that make it afresh.

Red Ocean and Blue Ocean

Today, it is more difficult in any market to create value in red oceans, but Blue Oceans will eventually become red, as the industry slides into maturity and structures become less flexible. In red oceans, value is limited, as direct competition among players inhibits any exceptional creation of value. Only the best organizations are able to generate value in Red Ocean. I would therefore say any business must create consumer demand and exploit untapped markets, (remember my article about "Position Mapping" in Marketing!). According to this strategy, companies are required to ‘create’ a demand for a particular product and as long as there is a need for it from consumers and the companies continue making profits, more vendors will arrive on the market to serve that need.  Why, because everyone is able to break even and continue in the market.

By Blue Ocean you invent and capture new demand, and you will find a new way to offer your customers a leap in value while also streamlining your costs. What are the results? I assure you for handsome profits, speedy growth—and brand equity that lasts for decades while rivals scramble to catch up.

Come up with creative ways of serving such a significant portion of the market. This works well if you find the right niche and you are a latecomer in a market that is already crowded.

Business Positioning And Winning Customers in Highly Competitive Markets

You know that your business is offering a great service or product, and you believe that you and your company are special, but your potential customers won't know unless you tell them, Think about it? And they won't care unless they can see how your special angle directly makes their lives easier. In the same time, you need to make sure you know how your product or service works to get customer satisfaction.

It's more than just showing the features of your products or services; you've got to explain the benefits, for instance, if your business is in the educational sector or in the technology services it’s best to slice out specific benefits that will distinguish your products or services in the market.

Therefore, a brand's "position" is where it stands relative to its competitors in the minds of customers. An important aspects of a brand's position in a products or service category is how similar or different the brand is perceived to be in comparison with other brands in the product category.

Positioning has long been acknowledged as a core branding activity (DiMingo, 1988). Positioning is the act of designing an organization's offering and image to occupy a distinctive place in the target market's mind (Kotler, 2000). For example, Samsung is positioned as the industry leader in technology. Panadol is positioned as the painkiller medicine. Walmart is positioned as lowest possible prices for retailing. Each of these brands holds a distinct position in its product category and the organization's product, promotion, distribution and pricing strategies are designed to communicate and support the brand's unique position.

I would consider the positioning decision as crucial strategic decision for a company or a brand because the position can be central to customers' perception and choice decisions. Further, since all the elements of the marketing program can potentially affect the position, it is usually necessary to apply the positioning strategy as a focus for development of the marketing program. A clear positioning strategy can ensure that the elements of the marketing program are consistent and supportive.

I have a good experience in educational sector, and for this reason I would like to input my example at the level of the higher education to clarify the role of positioning in this business.

A university that has a distinct position is able to convey to prospective students what it is and what it stands for (Lowry & Owens, 2001). By directing all of its marketing efforts towards a desired position, a university maintains a coherence and unity in its activities and establishes a specific image (Lowry & Owens, 2001). Effective positioning focuses in what the target market perceives is important and not necessarily what university administrators believe is significant (Lowry & Owens, 2001).

For instance, AUS (American University of Shariah) is one of the organizations in Middle East that offers services which is not intended to make a monetary profit. AUS one of the top universities ranking in the region and it jumps to 390 in world university rankings.

Positioning results from the specific way in which the four key marketing variables of product, price, promotion, and place (referred to as the 4 Ps) are managed (Lowry & Owens, 2001). In a collegiate environment, product becomes academic programs and services, price is tuition and financial aid, promotion is the communications program, and place refers to the delivery system for academic programs (Lowry & Owens, 2001). The size of a school, class sizes, and the student faculty ratio are important elements of the academic delivery system (Lowry & Owens, 2001). The advertising, public relations, admissions materials, and other promotions of the institution should be coordinated to make a unified positioning statement (Lowry & Owens, 2001).

Based on that, the university works to create its position in terms of student’s quality, community, faculty and staff qualification and skills, program, service and facilities. I have sketched out below a diagram with positioning map that has three categories (competitors, attributes and segments)

The most frequently used positioning base is associating the brand with a particular attribute, product feature, or user benefit. For example, Columbia College of Chicago positions itself on the attribute of innovation in the arts with its positioning slogan "create ... change"

Organizations are often tempted to position themselves along multiple attributes. However, positioning strategies that involve a number of attributes can lead to a diluted brand position and confusion in the minds of consumers.

In the positioning map I drew for example,

GS Style layers are always looking for excellent benefit which includes “Academic Program and Services “. Parents or Guardians of students don’t focus on the price (tuition and fees) versus quality and services; also they prefer safe place with sustain environment to enhance their children for optimal use of energy and learn how to live healthy and sustainable. In the contrast we see UOWD also contain GS segment because some parents are usually seeking for moderate tuition and fees and moderate quality of education

One more important thing which is considered a key element in positioning your business in the market place, it is to monitor the organization's position over time and make adjustments to the marketing strategy as may become necessary. In some instances, companies find it necessary to reposition their brands when either the company fails to achieve the desired position in consumers' minds or when the positioning base is no longer important to consumers. From my perspective American University of Shariah needs more work to market its product or service to its customers or clients. In positioning, the marketing department creates an image for the product based on its intended audience, and this is what AUS should do to enhance its position in the educational market place and differentiate from its competitors

To sum up, I would strongly say if a university is able to establish a distinctive position relative to its competitors, it enhances its ability to maintain or increase enrollments.

Attracting High - End Clients By Applying Promotion Frameworks

Many of my friends who have a business ask me different questions about how to promote their business and what is the fastest way to find new customers and attracting high - end clients?  In this post I am going to explain the most important secret to attracting high - end clients. This could be the most important article you’ll read in your business (sure, everyone says that), but from my perspective I strongly say the logic says 1 plus 1 equal 2 and in my math I would add when you master the art of attracting high - end clients, you’ll transform your whole business.

Everyone wants to attract more clients. But I think it’s even more important to set your sights on attracting more high - end clients. What do you think?
I have sketch out a new framework about the high - end clients. And I define high - end clients in the following three ways:

1- They are “ideal clients.” That is, clients you can really make a difference with and whom you love to work with.
2- They are “long - term clients.” These are clients with whom you can offer programs and services for a year or more.
3- They are “high - paying clients.” They understand the value you offer and are willing to pay you more than average clients will.

Today, there are many forms of promotional media. Some marketers also refer to them as "touch points," since they are every place where people encounter your brand. I'll describe a one of most important technique (which I know best) that helps many businesses to boost revenue in a positive direction. Keep in mind, what works for one industry or brand may not work for other industries and brands. This is simply to provide you with an idea of the options; it's imperative that you adapt the medium to what works best for your brand, your stakeholders, and your goals.

An advertisement would be effective only if the media audience accepts that message and is motivated to take the requisite action. The mission of an advertisement is to attract a reader, so that he/she will look at the advertisement and start to read it; which will then interest him, so that he/she will continue to read it; then to persuade him/her, so that when he/she has read it he will believe it. If an advertisement contains these three qualities of success, it is a successful advertisement.

AIDA Model

AIDA stands for attention, interest, desire, and action. It is an acronym used in marketing and advertising, which helps marketing managers develop effective communication strategies and communicate with customers in a way that better responds to their needs and desires. AIDA describes a common list of events that occur when a consumer views an advertisement. Each letter in the acronym stands for the following:

The "A" represents attention or awareness, and the ability to attract the attention of the consumers. Without attention, I can hardly persuade them of anything. Your marketing messages, materials, marketing strategies and sales processes need to communicate the message that you offer higher - end services. Perception is essential. Every impression you make should communicate: “I offer high quality, pay attention to details, follow - up professionally and produce great results.”

For instance, When I write blog posts, I like to split the title into two parts: what I’m talking about (the feature), and the result of it (the benefit),  just look at my last few blog post titles here:

- Build Your Income By Creating Your Own Online Business
- Balanced Scorecard Your Tool to Translate Business Performance
- Putting Information Technology on Track and Why it Matters for Marketing!

The "I" is interest and points to the ability to raise the interest of consumers by focusing on and demonstrating advantages and benefits (instead of focusing on features, as in traditional advertising). Once I have their attention, I will sustain that attention by getting the other person interested!

You can bolster interest with offers and compelling reasons why you’re better than your competitor, and how you can solve customers’ problems. Features and benefits weigh heavily in this level, and social media can help you kick their interest into high gear.

For instance, you’ve got my attention, but I’m not ready to buy your product yet. And even if I was, I need to know you can actually UNDERSTAND and SOLVE my problem… which is why you need to tell me what problem I’m having and how can you really help me solve it.

The "D" represents desire. The advertisement convinces consumers that they want and desire the product or service because it will satisfy their needs. I believe once they are interested in my business and what I offer.

In the “interest” stage you’ve already done the clever storytelling… now you need to tell me what it is you want me to buy:

Social media can help bolster desire through communication and engagement, but to fully satisfy someone’s desire to buy, you need to have a site that is streamlined and optimized. Take the time to go through your site and optimize the presentation and the shopping cart experience. Testimonials gathered from linkable social profiles are a great asset. Take the customer from interest to desire with a clean, easy to navigate, info rich, and functional site.

What’s the exact name of your product and what’s in it?
What’s in each module, why is each module important and why is it given in the order you show it?
What bonuses are you giving me?

The "A" is action, which leads consumers toward taking action by purchasing the product or service. I would add, this is the magic stage when they take action on their desires and actually do their purchase and buy my products or services.

In small-business marketing, AIDA helps owners communicate more effectively with their customers. I would to say, the AIDA is like a tool we can use it to convince others not only in business or promote the product, I believe it's door key which persuade others to achieve the desired goal.

In this regard, AIDA has become a sales-driven tool that is strategized to lead the potential buyer towards an end suggested by the advertiser.
